Member portal
Your members get their own portal where they can check their membership status, register for events, view payment history, and download documents. This page walks you through what they see and what they can do.
What members see on the dashboard
When a member signs in they land on the dashboard. Here’s what’s on it:
- Membership card. Shows their tier name, active status, and renewal date. If their membership is expiring within 30 days, a Renew Now button appears on the card.
- Stats. A count of events they’ve attended and events they’re registered for.
- Quick actions. Buttons to jump straight to Events, Community directory, Payments, and Profile.
- My upcoming events. The next events they’ve registered for, with the date and time. Clicking any event opens its detail page.
- Discover events. Community events they haven’t registered for yet, so they can find something new.
- Latest news. The three most recent announcements. Important announcements are flagged so members don’t miss them.
If a member doesn’t have an active membership, the membership card area shows available tiers instead.
How members sign in
Members go to your community URL and click Sign In. They enter their email and password.
First time: When you add a member in Somiti, they get a welcome email with a link to set their password. See profile for what members can update after they’re in.
Forgot password: They click Forgot Password on the sign-in page, enter their email, and get a reset link. The link takes them to a page to set a new password.
How members view and renew their membership
Members click Membership in the top navigation. They’ll see their current tier, the date they joined, and when their membership expires or renews.
If their membership is expiring within 60 days, a Renew Membership button appears. Here’s what happens when they click it:
- They see a summary: current plan, expiry date, billing period, and the renewal cost.
- They click Proceed to Payment.
- If your tier has a Stripe price set up, the payment processes online and the membership renews immediately.
- If not, Somiti logs a renewal request and they’ll need to complete payment through another channel.
On the membership page they can also click Upgrade to move to a higher tier, or Cancel membership to cancel. They can see their full membership history if they’ve had more than one membership over time.
Note: Members can only renew when their membership is expiring soon or already expired. If they try to renew too early, they’ll see a message explaining it’s not needed yet.
See memberships for how membership renewal and upgrades work from the admin side.
How members register for events
Members click Events in the top navigation. They see all published upcoming events as cards, each showing the date, time, location, price, and spots remaining.
To filter: They can switch between Upcoming, This Week, This Month, and Past. They can also filter by category using the dropdown.
Calendar view: There’s a toggle between list and calendar view. In calendar view, events they’ve registered for show in one color, waitlisted events in another, and available events in a third.
To register for an event:
- Click the event card to open its detail page.
- Click Register (or the equivalent button for that event).
- If the event has a fee, they’ll complete payment through Stripe.
- If the event is full and has a waitlist open, they can join the waitlist instead.
Once registered, the event appears in My Events. They also get a confirmation. See events and event registration for how event capacity and waitlists work on your end.
How members see their registered events
Members click My Events from the Events page. They’ll see stats for total events, upcoming, attended, and cancelled. They can filter the list by Upcoming, Past, or Cancelled.
For each upcoming registered event, there’s a countdown showing how many days away it’s scheduled. If the registration can still be cancelled, a Cancel registration link shows at the bottom of that event row.
How members view their payments
Members access Payments from the profile dropdown in the top right. They’ll see a summary of their total paid, any refunded amounts, and a transaction count. Their full payment history appears below, grouped by year, with the date and description of each charge.
For each payment they can click the eye icon to view details, or the download icon to open a receipt.
If they have a payment method on file, a Manage Payment Method button appears at the top. Clicking it takes them to the Stripe billing portal where they can update their card.
How members access documents
Members click Documents in the top navigation. They’ll only see documents you’ve shared with them based on their membership tier or role. They can filter by category if you’ve organized documents that way.
Clicking a document opens it. There’s a download option on the detail page.
See documents for how to upload documents and control who can see them.
Portal navigation
Here’s what’s in the top navigation bar and where everything else lives:
| Location | Items |
|---|---|
| Top nav | Home, Events, Membership, Community (member directory), Documents |
| Profile dropdown (top right) | Profile, Payments, Settings (notification preferences), Sign out |
| Footer | News (announcements), Contact |
Troubleshooting
Member can’t sign in
- Make sure their email address in Somiti is correct.
- Ask them to use Forgot Password if they’re not sure of their password.
- Check that their account isn’t suspended or cancelled in Somiti.
Member can’t see a document
- Check the document’s access settings in documents. It may be restricted to a specific tier or role they don’t have.
- Make sure the document is published.
Member doesn’t see a Renew button
- The renew button only appears when the membership is within 60 days of expiry or already expired. If they’re more than 60 days out, they’ll need to wait or you can renew it from the admin side in memberships.
