Cookie Policy

Last updated: February 28, 2026

Effective: February 28, 2026

Key Points

Here's the short version of what matters most:

  • We only use cookies that are essential to run the service—authentication and security. No analytics, advertising, or tracking cookies.
  • We use two cookies: one for your session and one to keep you signed in.
  • Stripe may set its own cookies when you make a payment. We don't control those.
  • We use one localStorage key to remember your calendar/list view preference. It never leaves your browser.
  • We honor Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals from your browser.
  • We use self-hosted, cookieless analytics (Umami) that sets no cookies and stores no data on your device. You can opt out via the footer link.
  • Because all our cookies are strictly necessary, no consent banner is required under EU ePrivacy rules.

1. What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files that are stored on your device (computer, tablet, or mobile) when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work more efficiently, provide a better user experience, and give website owners information about how their site is being used.

Cookies can be "persistent" (they remain on your device until deleted or expired) or "session" cookies (they are deleted when you close your browser).

2. How We Use Cookies

Somiti uses a minimal set of cookies, limited to what is strictly necessary to operate the Service:

  • Keep you signed in to your account
  • Maintain your session as you navigate between pages
  • Protect against cross-site request forgery (CSRF) attacks
  • Store temporary messages (e.g., "You have been signed out")

We do not use cookies for advertising or behavioral tracking. Our analytics tool (Umami) is cookieless and stores no data on your device.

3. Cookies We Use

Essential Cookies

Required

These cookies are necessary for the website to function and cannot be disabled. All essential cookies are first-party (set by somiti.net).

Cookie Name Purpose Duration Flags
_somiti_session Rails session: stores CSRF token, flash messages, and return URL Session (browser close) HttpOnly, Secure, SameSite=Lax
session_id Keeps you signed in to your account Permanent (20 years, Rails default) HttpOnly, Secure, SameSite=Lax

That's the complete list. We do not set any functional, analytics, or marketing cookies.

4. Third-Party Cookies

We do not set third-party cookies ourselves. However, when you make a payment through the Service, Stripe (our payment processor) may set its own cookies to process the transaction securely and prevent fraud.

Stripe

Payment processing

Stripe sets cookies to process payments securely and prevent fraud. These cookies are only placed when you interact with a payment form and are governed by Stripe's own policies.

5. Local Storage

In addition to cookies, we use your browser's local storage to remember a small number of preferences. Unlike cookies, local storage data is never sent to our servers—it stays entirely in your browser.

Key Purpose Duration
eventsView Remembers whether you prefer the calendar or list view for events Until cleared by you or your browser
umami.disabled Remembers your choice to opt out of anonymous website analytics Until cleared by you or your browser

6. Managing Your Preferences

6.1 Global Privacy Control

We honor Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals. If your browser or device sends a GPC signal, we treat it as a valid opt-out request under applicable privacy laws, including the CCPA/CPRA. You can learn more at globalprivacycontrol.org. For details, see our Privacy Policy Section 12.

6.2 EU/UK Users

Under the EU ePrivacy Directive (and its UK equivalent), consent is not required for cookies that are strictly necessary for the service you have requested. Because all cookies set by Somiti fall into this category, we do not display a cookie consent banner. You always have the right to block or delete cookies through your browser settings.

6.3 Browser Settings

Most web browsers allow you to control cookies through their settings. You can view, delete, or block cookies at any time. Here are links to cookie management instructions for popular browsers:

Important Note

If you disable essential cookies, some features of Somiti will not work properly. You will not be able to sign in or stay signed in, and pages that require authentication will be inaccessible.

7. Updates to This Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal, operational, or regulatory reasons. When we do, we will post the revised policy on this page and update the "Last updated" date at the top.

For material changes—such as introducing new categories of cookies or new third-party services that set cookies—we will provide at least 30 days' advance notice via email or a prominent notice on the Service before the changes take effect.
